Study: The Current Conditions of the Island of Ireland Labour Market

A study commissioned by the Labour Employer Economic Forum (LEEF) Shared Island Working Group was conducted by Maureen O’Reilly (Independent Economist), Annmarie O’Kane (Centre for Cross Border Cooperation), Rose Tierney (Tierney Tax Consultancy Limited), and Anne Devlin (ESRI) to examine the current conditions of the labour market across the island of Ireland.

The study identified two key issues that are emerging and are likely to increasingly impact the effective functioning of an all-island labour market:

1. Information Failure There is a lack of guidance and advice on cross-border employment for both employees and employers.

2. Changing/Diverging Legislation & Policy The UK's exit from the EU has led to significant changes in legislation affecting cross-border workers.
