EU-UK Agreement May 2025

On 19th May 2025 the EU and UK announced a new agreement. The aim of this agreement is to reset relations between the UK and the EU. Here we look at what it might mean for you.

As part of the new agreement several changes will be introduced. These changes include both trade and human mobility.

Agrifood

The UK and the EU have announced that they will align on food safety and animal welfare standards. This will allow for a reduction in checks on goods of plant and animal origin moving between the UK and the EU.

Fisheries

This agreement includes a new deal on fisheries which gives EU fishing vessels access to UK waters until 2038.

Youth Mobility and Erasmus

Under this new arrangement the UK will rejoin Erasmus programme, while a new youth mobility scheme giving young people the opportunity to live and work in EU member states remains under consideration.

Passport Control

UK passport holders will be able to use e-gates when passing through immigration at EU airports. This will allow for faster processing times and a more streamlined travel experience.

What does this mean for the Windsor Framework?

The Windsor Framework remains in place. Business in Northern Ireland should continue to complete all customs requirements included in the framework. For more information please visit: A Guide to Trading in Northern Ireland, and the Windsor Framework
