There are new requirements being introduced for businesses placing goods on the market in Northern Ireland and Ireland.
What is the new regulation?
The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) is designed to ensure that products being placed on the market in Northern Ireland and the EU are safe. To comply with these new requirements non-EU Manufacturers will require a Responsible Economic Operator (REO) when seeking to place consumer goods on the market in either Northern Ireland or the EU. This REO will need to be based in either Northern Ireland or the EU. This operator must be in either Northern Ireland or the EU.Are there any other requirements?
In addition to having a Responsible Economic Operator the GPSR also covers rules relating to labelling, traceability and documentation.What about products placed on the market before 13 December 2024?
Products placed on the market before 13 December 2024 will not be subject to the new regulation.What are the labelling requirements?
Products which are subject to GPSR rules will need to ensure that the product can be identified. This could be done via a batch or serial number. This can be either on the labelling or, if not possible, on packaging or accompanying documentation.Are there any exemptions?
There are some exemptions to GSPR. These include:
• Animal By-Products
• Living animals and plants
• Food.
