When faced with completing customs declarations a business has two options:
- Complete in-house.
- Outsource to a customs agent.
By completing customs declarations in-house businesses will have a much greater level of control over the content and accuracy of a declaration.
However, they will need to ensure that they have access to software which is compatible with government systems and sufficiently trained staff to be able to accurately complete declarations in a timely manner.
Alternatively, businesses can choose to outsource customs declarations to an external customs agent. This will prevent the need for specialist software and in-house expertise. However, it is important to note that in many cases the business who outsources the declarations will remain legally liable for the accuracy of all information contained within the declaration.
If choosing to outsource customs declarations, businesses may wish to consider continuing to monitor all declarations.
