About the Trade Hub
Our aim is to support businesses to engage in efficient and effective trade between Ireland, Northern Ireland, and GB and to help them develop and grow their export potential.
There's lots of information in the Trade Hub Knowledge Base, including customs, VAT, regulation and legal, people and employment. We can also provide tailored one-to-one consultancy support.
We can help you:
- Increase your knowledge on customs and trade between Ireland, Northern Ireland and GB.
- Understand VAT implications when trading cross-border.
- Learn about regulations and legal differences when trading cross-border.
- Understand the implications of employing cross-border workers.
Our fully funded Trade Health Check provides tailored consultancy advice, designed to help your business navigate trading requirements between Northern Ireland, Ireland and GB.

There are two levels of support.
1: Speak to one of our expert trade consultants to get a quick answer to your question.
You'll get a call back within one working day.
- If your question is straightforward you'll get an answer right away, so you can go back to work with the advice you needed.
- If your query is more complex, or you would benefit from more in-depth support we'll make sure you get the help you need. Our consultant will make a recommendation to the InterTradeIreland Trade Hub Team who will, subject to criteria*, approve progress to level two, an in-depth Trade Health Check.
2: In-depth Trade Health Check - Up to three days of fully funded specialist consultancy advice.
You will benefit from a detailed discussion with your assigned consultant, tailored to your particular needs. Our fully funded support will provide you with up to three full days of expert advice, problem solving and analysis.
We have a panel of experts who specialise in these key areas:
- Customs declarations and paperwork
- Regulations and labelling
- VAT for goods, services and e-commerce
- Employment and cross-border workers.
* Eligibility criteria
- Any business with fewer than 250 employees, located on the island of Ireland, is eligible for a level 1 consultation.
To be eligible for a level 2 In-depth Trade Health Check your business must be:
- Located on the island of Ireland (North or South)
- Trade across the border (Northern Ireland / Ireland)
- Employ fewer than 250 employees
- Have an annual turnover of less than €50m (or sterling equivalent)
- Have a trading history (minimum 12 months). InterTradeIreland reserve the right to request submission of financial accounts.
Every participant in the Trade Health Check will be asked to complete a satisfaction survey for support received.
